Since 1989, Elite Pool Covers has pioneered the design and manufacture of commercial pool covers — giving public and commercial pool operators a way to save on water consumption, infrastructure costs and energy every single day.
R value is the resistance between the outside temperature and the water temperature trying to equalise — the higher it is, the less heat and water a covered pool loses every day, and the more it saves. Elite's 4mm and 5mm Thermal Shield blankets carry the highest R value on the market, independently tested rather than calculated.
Enter your pool's details below and Elite's calculator estimates annual savings, payback period and environmental impact — all using climate data for your city.

Each year, that's roughly the same as
Estimate only, for guidance purposes. Evaporation uses the Carrier/Shah (ASHRAE) formula from the water-to-air vapour-pressure difference at a sheltered 0.1 m/s surface air velocity — deliberately conservative, as an exposed outdoor pool evaporates (and saves) more. The cover is credited with cutting 95% of evaporation while on; insulation is modelled as R0.15 m²·K/W added in series with an R0.05 m²·K/W surface film. Carbon uses indicative Australian factors: natural gas at 0.0514 kg CO2-e/MJ and state-average grid electricity (National Greenhouse Accounts) for heat pumps. Payback is undiscounted. Equivalents assume a household uses ~200 kL of water and ~6.5 MWh of electricity a year, and a car emits ~4.2 t CO2-e a year; pool refills assume 1.5 m average depth. Utility prices and climate figures are editable defaults / long-term averages — enter your own rates for a precise figure.
A short look at why the fabric underneath a commercial cover matters as much as the cover system around it.
A pool blanket has to go somewhere when it's not on the water. Elite engineers each of these systems in-house, and can specify or customise one to suit your centre's deck space, budget and how often the cover comes on and off.
Store the blanket without taking up pool deck space with a roller. Choose from Elite's range of ready-made bench seats, or have one custom-built for your centre. Benches can be mobile or stationary, clad in your choice of covering, and operated manually, by remote-control motor, or with Elite's Blanket Buddy® winding equipment.
Computer-designed and built from 10mm thick 316 marine-grade stainless steel, CNC-bent and TIG-welded, then electro-polished to oil-rig corrosion-resistant standards. Solid 38mm heat-treated 316 stainless axles with a 30mm square drive give positive, tamper-resistant operation via Elite's detachable steering-wheel system or Blanket Buddy® — with a lower profile and smaller footprint than most rollers on the market. Available stationary or mobile, the mobile version running on large non-marking wheels in 316 stainless, 360° rotating brake casters.
Motorised, one-person, foot-controlled operation that pays for itself in labour savings. Highly versatile and easy to fit to most new or existing rollers.
The space-efficient option: the blanket winds down out of sight into a below-ground storage box at the end or side of the pool, at the push of a foot switch, hidden by Elite's extruded anodised-aluminium, easy-open, non-slip lid. Blanket Buddy® handles pulling the blanket back out over the pool.
Cover and uncover the pool out of sight, at the click of a remote. Elite custom engineers a wall-mounted or free-standing motorised winding system for your centre, saving on labour and storage space.
Put the pool to bed at season's end with a custom-fit security/debris cover. Elite's flush-mounted tension-pin system leaves no trip hazard on the deck once the cover is removed — just a clean pool. The heavy-duty mesh tensions across the pool as a protective barrier, saving on water, chemicals, cleaning and maintenance, and extending the pool's life — while adding security. Cover it, and forget it.
Everything a facilities manager or consultant needs to put an Elite commercial cover to tender.
Pool size, deck space, staffing and how many times a day the cover comes on and off all change which system makes sense. Elite's commercial team can specify a roller, bench, Hideaway or motorised system to suit your facility, or work from a tender specification you already have.
